No words will be able to do this year any justice, it was – quite possibly – my favourite year, and for a few reasons: </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>This year, <em>I found love</em>. I’m not necessarily referring to the romantic kind, but love in the many ways it manifests itself in our lives. The unconditional kind. The one-I-want kind. The inconvenient kind. The heart-breaking kind. The life-changing kind. The constant kind. Much like the sky, with its ever-changing appearance and condition, love was omnipresent during the good and the bad of 2012.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>This year, <em>I said goodbye</em>. The world that I had always known fell apart the day my Grandmother passed away in February. I was right by her side when it happened and for a period of time after her death, I had no idea what the rest of my year (let alone the rest of my life) was supposed to look like without her in it. Losing her changed everything. But instead of allowing the loss to harden my heart, I did the exact opposite; I opened it.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>This year, <em>I said hello</em>. Losing my Grandma so early in 2012 definitely set the tone for the rest of the year and I was more determined than ever to live life to it’s fullest – as cliché as that sounds. I welcomed in any opportunity that presented itself to me and, in doing so, ushered in a parade of invaluable lessons and experiences. I said yes to feelings, to tears, to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and, surprisingly, to routine. I felt everything and regret nothing. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>This year, <em>I lost myself</em>. Oftentimes by choice. There is something to be said about stripping back, allowing yourself to be vulnerable, letting go of the familiar and getting out of your comfort zone. It’s good for the soul and it’s empowering. When my grandma died, when my all of my plans seemed to be failing, when heart (momentarily) broke, and when I boarded that plane to New York, I had no choice but to be strong for myself. When you have nothing (or when you feel like you have nothing), you have the opportunity to see your world in a different light and, from there, you can rebuild and create the life you have always wanted – which is exactly what I did and what I will continue to do.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>This year, <em>I found myself</em>. As Frou Frou says in their song, Let Go, there is “beauty in the breakdown”. Everything that happened in 2012 has played its part in forming the person I am right now, in this very moment. In losing myself, I was able to discover my wants, my needs, my hopes and my dreams. While I am still unsure about what the future may bring, I have never been so sure of who I am and what I am hoping for. My dreams are set and the future looks bright. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span>This coming year will continue the ongoing journey of growth, of refinement, of discovery, adventures and love. It has some big shoes to fill, but I have a gut feeling that 2013 will be full of everything I have ever wanted.
